Earning the Right to Learn About Higher Abstractions and Join Capstone
In my job hunt, which lasted exactly two weeks, there was never an interview that I walked into where I wasn't confident. This confidence and drive instilled in me by Launch School allowed me to go to multiple interviews, succeed in various interview formats, and join a company that I love as a senior engineer.
A year and a half ago, I stumbled upon Launch School's home page. I was shocked by the messaging. Nobody was promoting anything remotely similar to LS. "So you want me to devote more than just three months to become a master of the fundamentals?? Sign me up!"
I bought into LS from day one because the team never deviates from wanting your absolute best. I worked harder than I had ever worked before in my life. I spent thousands of hours mastering my craft. At times it felt exhausting, endless, and trying, but as Chris always says, "To be a successful engineer, you have to persevere." And persevere, I did. Spending seven months in Core was crucial to my success. I mastered the fundamentals to the point that I never had to think about them again.
Throughout Core, my sole focus was on doing everything possible to be accepted into Capstone, and once that happened, the real work began. You never know what you don't know, and boy did I not know anything! Capstone is entirely different from Core. No longer are you spending hundreds of hours going at your own pace to learn the fundamentals. You're now learning at the rate that you're expected to in a real job. Through the time spent on Core, you will have earned the right to learn about the higher abstractions and the right to be part of the select few who make it to Capstone.
In my job hunt, which lasted exactly two weeks, there was never an interview that I walked into where I wasn't confident. In Core, I mastered the fundamentals, in Capstone, I practiced just in time learning and received world-class education into the real world of engineering. And so there was nothing an interviewer could show me or attempt to surprise me by. I had spent thousands of hours honing in on my craft. This confidence and drive instilled in me by LS allowed me to go to multiple interviews, succeed in various interview formats, and join a company that I love as a senior engineer. Would I do it all again? Obviously.
